Outaouais, summer 1996. Solange, a 23-year-old Rwandan refugee, finds political asylum in Hull with her four-year-old daughter Lisa. Their integration process is fraught with obstacles and nothing goes as planned. Solange forges a friendship with Nyota, her Congolese-born neighbor, who helps her navigate her new home. From the heavy heat of summer to the first snowflakes of winter, Hamwe follows the pivotal moments of Solange and Lisa's journey towards permanent residency. Together is an ode to the land of welcome that is Quebec, but also to the resilience of my mother and the millions of other political refugees and economic immigrants.

125 Years Memory

Two historical incidents that deepened the friendship between Japan and Turkey are connected in this story of friendship and compassion: In the night of 16 September 1890 the Turkish frigate Ertuğrul is caught up in a typhoon and sinks off the Japanese coast. Risking their own lives, local villagers are able to rescue 69 Turkish sailors. Although being very poor and having hardly to eat, the villagers share what little they have with strangers from a country 9,000 kilometers away. 95 years later, during the Iran-Iraq War, more than 300 Japanese are stranded in Tehran. In the morning of 19 March 1985 a Turkish Airlines aircraft takes off for Tehran to evacuate the Japanese. But the remaining Turks at Tehran Mehrabad Airport still need to be convinced that they won't be able to board their own country's rescue flight.

The movie is embedded in the social conditions of the 70s AD Iran, has a 70s Iranian chivalric tincture, religious color-as was the climate of the Iranian society at the time- and is blended with historic state propaganda. For the audience of that time, this movie would have received a fair score, as it touches on religious notions. However, the issue it addresses is far more complicated and sophisticated at this age, and its propaganda outlook can no longer attract significant commercial or critical attention.
