The Legend of the Condor Heroes

The Legend of the Condor Heroes is a Hong Kong television series adapted from Louis Cha's novel of the same title. It was first broadcast on TVB Jade in Hong Kong in 1983. The 59 episodes long series is divided into three parts. This 1983 version is considered by many to be a classic television adaptation of the novel and features the breakthrough role of Barbara Yung, who played Huang Rong.

Dynasty

During the later years of the Kangxi Emperor's rule, his many sons were vying for the throne. The fourth prince, aided by Lusi, Nian Gengyao, and Han Chong, while the fourteenth prince had the support of martial arts master Zeng Jing. The competition between the two became intense. Lusi developed a romantic relationship with the fourth prince while Zeng Jing also had feelings for her, making their situation more complicated. Later, the fourth prince killed Kangxi and altered the imperial edict, successfully usurping the throne and naming himself Emperor Yongzheng. From then on, Yongzheng ruthlessly eliminated dissidents and even betrayed those who helped him, causing Lusi to regret her involvement. Ultimately, the fourteenth prince plotted to assassinate Yongzheng with the help of Zeng Jing and Lusi, igniting a fierce battle.

The Imperial Age

In the early Ming dynasty, Zhu Di, the fourth son of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang started military training in his early days to navigate court and palace intrigues. Zhu Di evolves into a formidable political and military leader, ultimately ushering in the prosperous Yongle era, a period famed for its accomplishments and splendor.

Dashing Youth

Baili Dongjun, the young master of the Marquis of Zhenxi's mansion, has little interest in practicing martial arts but throws himself into brewing liquor, only because he promised to be the Liquor Deity while his childhood friend Ye Yun becomes the Sword Deity. As fate would have it, he becomes a disciple of the top martial arts master Li Changsheng to start learning martial arts. Later, he meets his confidante Yueyao, reunites with Ye Yun, who has changed his name to Ye Dingzhi, and travels with Sikong Changfeng, a wandering adventurer. Together, these youths embark on their own adventures in the martial world.

This drama tells the story of a love and hate relationship between Yun Lei, who carries a deep ancestral hatred, and Zhang Dan Feng, having as background the war of the heroes who struggle for the hegemony of the Central Plains during the end of Yuan dynasty and the beginning of the Ming dynasty.
